Make up of the CNCF
CNCF (Central Norwich Citizens’ Forum) is a Company limited by guarantee, a registered charity and a Development Trust that works to promote the quality of life for those who live, work and play in the centre of Norwich. It achieves its aims by working in partnership with local businesses, Norwich City Council and other statutory and voluntary entities.
Membership of CNCF is open to all residents of the City Centre area (as defined in its Memorandum and Articles of Association) whose names are included on the Register of Local Electors and are therefore over the age of eighteen.
The objects of the Company are, for the benefit of the residents of Norwich city without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, disability, age, race, political or religious beliefs or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to encourage and enable said residents to take an active part in civil life and to promote good citizenship, with the object of improving the quality of life and well-being of the community.
Governance
CNCF was formed in 1998 in response to Norwich City Council’s Community Power initiative. It became a Company Limited by Guarantee on 4th August 2003, and was registered as a charity on 8th October 2004. Its constitution allows for 12 – 20 members to be elected to its Board for a period of four years but may, on standing down, be re-elected. These individuals are the Directors of the Company.
The Directors form various ad hoc and standing committees (Planning, Traffic and Transport, Licensing) that investigate issues that are of importance to the community in central Norwich. Public meetings are held every month where the CNCF listens to concerns that are raised and reports on its own performance.
Financial Position
CNCF is financed principally by a grant from Norwich City Council.
